Who would've thought that Melbourne would be one of our last events for possibly the year? We were getting ready to exhibit at the Ekka show this weekend and then lockdown came to change our plans. Although we cannot say we were overly surprised, weird times are ahead. Stay safe all and see you when we do :)
Otakus, we will be back in Sydney!!
Heading this weekend to the showgrounds to have our third event of the year.
Covid has made logistics harder but we seriously can't wait to land in NSW and enjoy another event this rocky year
We will be having a good variety of Japanese school style skirts and kawaii tees plus some Pusheen and Gudetama plushies and stationary.
We hope we can see you there if you walk past our stand come say Hola! We will be happy to have a chat with you and get to see your wonderful cosplays
The Otaku-taco team :)
Supanova Gold Coast edition has been approved with Covid safe guidelines and is scheduled to take place in April 17-18 at the convention centre.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that the lockdown in Queensland does not get extended but more importantly that everyone remains safe these days.
What is an otaku?
Has anyone ever called you an otaku and you didn’t know what it meant the first time you heard it? Before we try to explain what is an otaku and why Otaku-taco was born, let’s start from the beginning.
A google search I made resulted in the following Otaku definition:
‘ (in Japan) a young person who is obsessed with computers or particular aspects of popular culture to the detriment of their social skills.’
Therefore, an otaku is someone so obsessed with something that has left their social skills aside to focus on what they love. This doesn’t sound too bad, does it?
Talking further about the obsessions that this particular individual would have would normally include anime, Japanese or pop culture, manga and/or cosplay so if you frequently do some of these activities and are kind of antisocial, congratulations you are an otaku!
Now let’s move on and let’s talk about what is a taco?
Coming back to our old friend Google…
Taco is ‘a Mexican dish consisting of a folded or rolled tortilla filled with various mixtures, such as seasoned mince, chicken, or bean’
Everybody knows what a taco, right? It’s that yummy dish that sometimes has herbs, chilli, guac and all the stuff we like.
Why Otaku-taco then?
Our business is a made from a mix of cultures, mix of styles and mix of everything. Hence our name is a mix of 2 foreign words that can be easily understood in English.
Our name is who we are and it rolls off the tongue really nicely.
Go ahead and say it… Otaku-taco!
Over our recent years as an exhibitor at Oz Comic-Con, we have watched not only the significant exhibitor following grow and diversify but the legions of avid fans, eager to try it all!
Workshops, interviews, stars from every stripe of pop-culture there is and reveals big and small.
